3D Animation, 7'20". Color. Stereo. Music: Txalaparta. Bilbao, 2005
Hostile Environments, a piece in 3D, combines a high level of production technology, with Maya programming, with vanguard tradition and with the psychology of its animation. The result is a strange hybrid of behaviour –a mechanism- in that the cultural component conditions the shaping of the material. A passage of systematic repetitions created by a hammer, as the father, and his nails as “sayings”: ideas enter like nails do: “clutching on to a burning nail”, “one nail gets rid of another”… (Spanish idioms with no near equivalent in English).
To personify an object such as the hammer that hits us is a very recent affair from our industrial period. The wobbling comes in as an ideological sign, until disintegration comes in the age of services. Screens in the manner of banners, signposting, advertising or propaganda… in a desert of loss.
